Professional Genealogist

Toll Genealogy – Professional Genealogist Services

Looking for help from a professional genealogist? You’ve come to the right place!

Whether you are looking for someone to investigate your family history, or you need a bit of help getting started with your own research, or you’ve hit a roadblock, or just want a professional genealogist to verify your own research, I can help.

Or maybe you’re wondering about this DNA thing, and whether a professional genealogist with experience in DNA can help you get past a brick-wall, help find an unknown parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent, or shed some light on a family mystery, I can help with that too.

I also do on the ground research in the London area for those unable to travel here themselves (this includes any publicly accessible library/archives in the greater London area including places such as the National Archives at Kew, the British Library, London Metropolitan Archives and any of the smaller regional archives like Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives, or Camden Local Studies and Archives Centre, for example.

If you’re a business, looking for assistance, I can help you too – I currently do research for Wall to Wall Media Limited for the UK version of Who Do You Think You Are? and am their current genetic genealogy consultant.  I also do forensic and investigative genealogy in the form of tracing of descendants of a particular person, including for heir tracing purposes (please see my ‘About’ page for my professional experience and credentials).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost Costs do vary according to exactly what you need and how much research is required, but as a general guide, my hourly rate for traditional genealogy work is £45 per hour, and for genetic genealogy work it is £50 per hour.  Bespoke fixed fee packages are available for some types of work.

Do you only take UK clients?

No, I take on clients from anywhere in the world, provided that they need research assistance with British or US genealogy.  My pricing is in UK £ Sterling, but your bank will be able to convert the price and I can give you an approximate price in your own currency based on the exchange rate at the time so there are no surprises for you.

How can I pay?

I accept payment by all major credit and debit cards, or you can pay by bank transfer if you have a UK bank account.  All credit/debit card payments are handled by Stripe.

What if I’m not sure what kind of help I need?

No problem! Just let me know what you’re struggling with by filling out the contact form, and I’ll suggest some options, no obligation to you to proceed.

Do you require payment in advance?

In most cases I do require payment in advance of any research I do, usually with a minimum booking of two hours of my research time (i.e. £90 for traditional genealogy bookings and £100 for genetic genealogy bookings).

Can I see your terms ahead of purchasing?

Of course! Just click here: Terms & Conditions of Purchase/Supply

Do you need access to my DNA results for Genetic Genealogy consultations?

Yes.  But if you have AncestryDNA results, they make this very easy, and I can talk you through how to grant me access and you can revoke it at any time.  Other companies I can suggest the best method based on what you need and which company you tested with.

How soon can you get started?

Usually within five business days of payment, and I aim to provide you with a completed report within 10-20 business days of commencing work.  Exact timescales will be agreed with you at quotation stage depending on my current workload.

I cannot thank you enough for all your hard work and research which has led to the unlocking of this mystery.  This is remarkable work that can and has changed lives.
Linda, London

Rachel did a great job researching my family history which she handled promptly, thoroughly and with characteristic sensitivity.  I can thoroughly recommend her services as a genealogist.
David, London

Rachel’s huge ability to combine her detailed DNA analysis and historical research provided some fantastic results for my father and me in putting us in touch with unknown close family members, identifying parts of our family tree in a way we never thought would be possible and bringing a lot of joy as a result.  Rachel’s report for us was really clear and detailed and remarkably comprehensive against the challenges of local written records not all being online!
